Gary Gissler is a contemporary American text artist with studios in the Catskills and Brooklyn. His practice involves a re-typing, cutting, weaving and arranging of letters, words and whole sentences to construct intricate and elegant works that play with and question meaning.

"These ‘drawings’ are part of a larger body of work that reflect the ongoing dialogue between my private practice as a psychoanalyst and my studio practice. Both continually explore the nature of interpretation, the innate qualities of uncertainty, the pursuit of the sublime, the elusiveness of language and the inevitable fragility of meaning. The books utilized in this series are inquiries into the nature of being, inevitably leaving us wanting, wondering. This occurs in the drawings: dense, impregnable, beyond our knowing."
