Brigitte Bouquet

GOBI is a sculptural series of ceramic creatures born from fragments gathered over years in my studios. Vivid, textured and quietly strange, each figure gives form and personality to the overlooked and the forgotten.

I returned to pieces I had stored away and the ceramic stains I have carried with me since leaving Amsterdam in 2002. Materials that had waited across continents and decades finally found their moment. And with it, a new life entirely their own.

Anatomy of Living Things

Dutch artist Brigitte Bouquet works in ceramics in combination with natural materials such as wood, linen, leather, paper, wool and hessian from her home in Andes, NY. Her work, she says is “grounded in a fascination for the anatomy of livings things, the essential visual elements that make up the whole. I am drawn to nature’s variegated patchwork and pattern - its textures, colors, structures and compositions. I see them as the origins of all that has been imagined and designed. My sculptures are made up of many individual pieces, forming intricate surfaces through rhythm, repetition and multiple glaze firing. The trance-line process involved in creating the works often take months. I enjoy getting lost in a deconstructed reality of everyday life”.
